This is the painting that started it all! My very first acrylic painting for Air Cooled Art inspired by a trip to Italy. My first paintings are very simplistic with
a bold use of colour and pattern inspired by the styles of the 70s,
when the T2 Bays were originally produced. I love the way my van lights up
at night like a little lantern. Purples and blue colour combinations are
a favourite too. I got asked for prints of this canvas as soon as it was
finished hence the birth of Air Cooled Art!
A painting inspired by the surfing lifestyle of many campervan
owners.Using colours and patterns inspired by the 70s era when
those vans were first made.
Another painting inspired by the surfing lifestyle with a focus this time
on the hibiscus pattern of popular surf wear and the ultimate surf bus
- the Samba. A colourful sunset with a bold floral landscape!
This picture is inspired by local trips to the Malvern Hills.
The sheer joy of running about in the fresh air on a summer's day.
Picnics amongst the hills with fauna and flora!
This picture is inspired by the roaming instinct that is inside the true VDubber. Getting away from the hustle of everyday life to the solitude of the land.
Parking up your bug on a cliff, watching the moon and contemplating the meaning of life. The hippie daydreaming state re-lived today from the 60s
and 70s when the bugs were in their heyday.
This picture is Inspired by my sister's van, a typical T25
1980's wedge which roams around the city. With skate parks nearby
where the urban surfers perform their stunts.
Bright colours of graffiti showing the VDub appreciation.
Another painting inspired by the surfing lifestyle down the West Coast.
The popular new T5 campervans with all their modcons are a common
site down South - enjoying the great outdoors!
A colourful sunset with vibrant sea and stripy hills!
This s a romantic picture, desert island, palm trees and
the good old Splitscreen! I can but dream of faraway shores!
An exotic getaway VDub style.
A simple pink sunset and bold floral pattern.
This painting was inspired by body boarding trips to Fistral Beach with my children in Newquay, Cornwall. An awesome place! I wanted to capture the wetness of the sand in a vibrant way. It was the 'Lord Mayor's Choice' at
an exhibition in the City of Worcester's Art Gallery last! Obviously a Vdub fan!
This picture is based on a recent trip to The Gower in Wales where
I walked a stretch of beach as the moon was rising up. I imagined a
campervan being only lit up by the moonlight and fairy lights,
parked alongside the ocean. I wanted to use a limited palette, just
like the colours I saw that night and get a sense of moving waves in
contast to the peaceful campervan.
This is a vibrant painting inspired by the 80s - the time when the
T25 was produced. It has a tropical vibe which made me think of
80s tunes like Club Tropicana by Wham!
This painting was inspired by autumn and camping out in
your van around this time of year.
Swirling leaves tumble all around you while you are
all tucked up cosy in your campervan!
This painting was was created when I was thinking about the
Cornish / Gower coastline and really missing them during lockdown.
The title is 'Just Chillin' and there is nothing better than forgetting your
worries in a beautiful natural setting with your campervan! It is a
mixed media painting, using watercolour and pastels to give texture.
This was created on a hot summer's day in my garden and is a purely imaginative piece. The tile is 'Hippie Daze' and the campervan has a very tranquil appearence. It's almost like the windows are sunglasses and the van is just chillin'! The flowers give the 60s feel to reflect when these vans were made.
The T2 campervan ventures into the forest in search of adventure! Who knows where the road will lead? As every campervan owner knows, you can't beat just taking off whenever the mood takes you, into the unknown.
Based on my own experiences of travelling in deeply wooded areas - you
can almost sense animals watching you and smell the pine cones!
This painting is still vibrant but is a bit of a freer style,
with a feeling of motion. I've never saw an old VDub travel so fast!
Discover new horizons - get out there on the open road,
you never know what you will see!
This is inspired by those remarkable finds - old wrecks of campervans found around the world, relics of days gone. The dream find waiting to be lovingly restored by the campervan enthusiast! A colourful field of sunflowers
hiding an old bay window campervan. Living the dream!
The little pink splitscreen campervan is travelling trough an enchanted wood! I went for a walk in a local wood and it was a beautiful, quiet place where I wanted to bring my campervan and stay overnight! I took pictures of the wood but instead of reproducing it using autumnal colours I changed my colour palette to pinks, blues and purples to give it a magical, enchanted quality.
This painting was influenced by a holiday in Amsterdam. An arty splitty campervan in the Van Gogh - impressionist style.
This is a digital design created in Illustrator and was inspired by
a trip out camping in the country alongside a field of dairy cows!
This is a print of an design produced in Illustrator - inspired by my love of
all VW vehicles. I like to put a different slant on things and this was influenced by the music around when the vehicles were first created.
I am a big Beatles fan too.
This digital artwork was inspired after running out of juice in my campervan. Imagine a car running on orange juice! A friend also owned a bright orange beetle! A bit of a play on words and a wild imagination!
This is a very simple modern design which is a quirky play on words.
The Splitscreen van is so iconic that you only really need to hint at their appearance in a design and they are instantly recognisable.

Do you know someone who owns a Westy, van
or dog? Modern designfor all lovers of
the traditional Westfalia!
I created this cartoon illustration for my son after watching the turtles in action. We were in Cornwall at the time seeing our fair share of vans, when inspiration struck. Based on my van, I gave him a bright green makeover and a poptop shell.
I like to put a different slant on things and this was influenced by my Devon bay and my love for the West Country! So many Campervans to see down there and my favourite part of the country.
This picture was painted for my family. Our van travelling across the bridge in my home city! This is painted in my favourite purples and blue colours and it gives an idea of how other pictures can be produced showing other special places and journeys. Contact me for commissions.
